STANFORD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS — India’s Great Lakes Institute of Management has created the Kotler-Srinivasan Centre for Research in Marketing to develop knowledge in marketing, focusing on research in India and its global role. The center is named for Professor Philip Kotler, S. C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing of the Kellogg School of Management, and V. Seenu Srinivasan, the Adams Distinguished Professor of Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Great Lakes Institute, located in Chennai (formerly Madras) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, announced creation of the new center in July 2006.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Bala Balachandran, founder and honorary dean of the school, said, "Given the natural core competencies and expertise on hand, we at Great Lakes have decided to make marketing our focus.” The research center will focus on marketing and sales research in India and will help transfer global concepts to local needs. Professor Srinivasan will act as an advisor to the center. He has given several talks on market research topics at the Great Lakes Institute of Management

Former US President & Great Lakers shake hands for Social Work

It would surely be a great opportunity, not only to work alongside Jimmy Carter, Former US President but also work for a noble cause.

US President and Great Lakers will be involved in a noble cause, doing Social Work in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Lonavala. Around 25 to 50 Student associates along with the faculty from Great Lakes would take part in various forms, with Honarary Dean Prof Bala V Balachandran, leading the show with Jimmy Carter.

All GreatLakers wish to see GLakes in Cluster 2 with in the next 2 years and in Cluster 1 in 5 years.
Lack of infrastructure ( the second imp criteria in ranking methodology) is the only reason for us not to be in Cluster 2, thats ofcourse will be having with in an year.
Anyways getting into 3rd cluster in just 2 years of establishment is certianly a big acheivement by GLakes admin. Thats really an appreciable point. Kudos to Uncle....

The crusade is almost mid way, and crusaders are enlightened with tremendous knoweldge transferred by some of the best in the profession. Some of the Prof’s we have had in last two terms are:-

Mr Amitava Ghosh - Marketing Research

He makes us learn, he makes us laugh, he makes us read cases like any other prof’s would, but then which prof would make you play virtual volley ball in class to wake you up, which prof would crack jokes out of the blue, which prof would happily point at you and tell you “Madam, Wake up”!. Thats Mr Ghosh, his way to transfer knoweldge is different from others and he makes sure the lectures are not lectures but funny discussions!

Mr Bharath - Human Resource Management, Chairman Aparajitha Group

Most would be forced to believe that he must have done some courses in HR, but then mentioned is his brief profile : 1st Rank holder(All India) ACA, ICWA, and FCA. Specialization in Corporate Finance, now then what is he doing here teaching HRM. Mr Bharath, is equally equipped with fundamentals of HR and has also done specialization in personnel management and human resources.
As most of prof’s here set their own high standards, Mr Bharath did exaclty the same. He entered with a Dairy Milk chocolate for every student (how i wish every one could do that). He brought about a new way to communicate thoughts, sharing Red, Yellow, Green and White Cards. He made us wear Name tags in his classes. He brought about a new concept of moment of truth from the lecture, and in just 2 classes he has changed lots of perceptions about HR. Great Communicator

Prof Latha - Human Re-engineering

She is teaching Human Re-engineering and hence brings in lots of experience and knoweldge about human behavior along with her. She is one of those who practices what she preaches. In last few classes she has made us think about ourselves and seems like one of those people who people who will transfer lots of thoughts, and leave on us to learn from them. Amazing communicator and a very nice teacher.

Prof Lalitha - Business Communication

Ask any Great Laker (Male), which lecture has been the best in the last 4 months, and the unanimous reply would be Prof Lalitha’s classes. Prof Lalitha is a free lancer and takes Business Communication Classes at various B Schools like ISB Hyderabad etc and in various corporate houses. She was just amazing, one of the best speaker i have met till date. She has the ability to keep most of us awake for 2 complete hours. We had loads of fun discussing on various issues and the last few mins of every class was great with each one of us coming forward and speakig about himselves/heselves for a few mins.
Before we go for our Fall Projects we have a few more people coming to teach us, lets see what they bring to the table. Till date the experience is getting better and better day by day

The best place to get the straight scoop about what B-school life is from students themselves rather than some “expatriated expert” from a pedigree b-school or some “high-society” magazine who do mumbo-jumbo about the school, faculty, facilities etc without experiencing…or rather not living the soldiers…breathing the same air…and thinking way beyond the regular “individuals”.

Great Lakes like all leading B-Schools across the globe is not only trying to break into the “Big-5” of the B-schools but with determined focus and vision its beating hollow its competitors and cheap “B-School imitations” who have sprung up across India in the past year or so.

…oops started with my own gyan…neways let the experts decide the ratings of the school…and let me give u a snapshot from 5000 feet of life at Great Lakes…tighten your seat belts…sit back and enjoy your ride…

The first question that anyone asks me is “Is B-school life as hectic as people say?” … For me, it's definitely not hectic, but in a way lots of fun. There are about 50-60 hours of class per week (excluding the guest lectures…we would get to that in a while...) and study groups, but also the requisite dinner parties and bar nights… But it runs in spurts -- sometimes it's very busy, and then there are lots of slower times when it's possible to socialize, relax, and catch up on zzz.

…the next trip we take on life away from books… Walking through the Great Lakes campus is an experience unlike any other. This may not be a stately (as of now), elegant thirty-five-acre campus of classic red-brick buildings, tree-lined walkways, and open, grassy courtyards like the ISB’s and the IIM’s but yes the corridors of Great Lakes oozes with energy, enthusiasm, ideas, sparks of brainwaves, the insatiable knowledge banks built into students …the essential ingredients of a par excellence b-school. The campus serves to strengthen the sense of comradeship at the school, with the belief that the daily interaction of life between students, professors, visiting faculty and guests only increases the potential for learning. There are abundant opportunities to participate in student government and clubs as well as activities that match your particular interests, whether you are looking to find a diversion from academic life or to have a significant impact on the Great Lakes community. student clubs at Great Lakes are never be considered "extra" curricular, because they are an important part of the curriculum and foster valuable opportunities for learning and relationship-building with students outside of the classroom.

The philosophy of Great Lakes is becomes a part of students from day 1… we believe that leadership, ethics and values are inseparable. We at Great Lakes plan to have over 250 hours of such interaction spread over a yaer … a few of the luminaries who have visited are campus till now are … Mr Ratan Tata - Chairman TATA Group, Mr LakshmiNarayan - CEO Cognizant, Mr Alok Sharma - Director Apple India, Abhijeet Bhaduri Director HR at Frito Lays, Mr Ravindran, Global Head HR Covansys… and this is just the tip of the iceberg … forum is a potent medium where one can to explore the idea of authentic, character-based leadership…

Luminaries@Great Lakes Series Vol 3

Most of us got our money worth when we had an opportunity of having Mr Abhijeet Bhaduri with us last week. But not many would have thought theres something equally entertaining and insightful coming up this week.

Today we had the privileg of having Mr Ravindran, Global Head HR Covansys, at Great Lakes. His first step in the seminar hall, got most of us interested. He was charming, and expressed himself in one the most wonderful ways. He didnt tell us stories of how to manage people and bla bla, but touched based with something new and something which he wanted to develop in near future. He shared his vision of innovation and freedom that he want to bring in his organization and corporate culture.

Very expressive, he shared his thoughts in the most humorous ways, using some hindi and funny ones in between to make it more interesting.

The trend seems to be catching at Great Lakes, and we have been lucky to have some of the best speakers and knoweldge creators at Great Lakes.
